Nadační fond „Sluníčko pro děti“ pomáhá dětem “Actions speak louder than words” – this principle applied in the decision made by E.ON Czech managers and fathers Mr Lorenz Pronnet, Mr Eckart Baum and Mr Magnus Alexander Brandau, all of whom live and work in the Czech Republic. In the spring of 2008, they decided to become personally involved in social matters and founded an endowment fund supporting disadvantaged children. In October 2008, as the law office of Alfery & Partner s.r.o. reflected on its five-year existence, Ms Jana Alfery decided to celebrate these five years of success in her own way. Instead of throwing the usual party, she decided to join the founders of the endowment fund. “Lucky circumstances in life and material abundance often depend on small things which a person cannot influence at all. This is why we wish to lend a helping hand to those who are not doing so well given the situation in their lives that they cannot do anything about. And these are the children.” This is the philosophy of the founding members. On 24 September 2008, the four founders officially registered the endowment fund “Sun for Children” in the Czech Endowment Register. As opposed to many other similar endowments, this one aims to support individual ill or physically or mentally disabled children and underprivileged children. The endowment thus does not explicitly address institutions but individuals. The endowment can be easily found on the web site www.slunickoprodeti.eu There is a window where people can put information about children from their neighborhood who might need help. Such information is naturally considered confidential if the author requests so. All posted requests are then selected and reviewed by the endowment council along with a board of experts, whose members are renowned medical doctors from České Budějovice and Prague. The members of the board of experts as well as the members of the board of trustees who consider the requests work for free. Other partners of the endowment fund are UniCredit Bank and TPA Horwath. Immediately upon its establishment, the fund had the opportunity to help a little girl. Seven-year old Natálka from České Budějovice had to undergo a complicated surgery. Natálka had suddenly experienced serious problems with her eyesight and was sent to the department of neurology at Motol hospital in Prague. The doctors found a five-year-old brain tumor the size of a tennis ball, which had to be removed immediately. In the next year and a half, Natálka underwent further surgeries and chemotherapy. She was a very brave girl and got over the treatment very well. However, the tumor severely damaged Natálka’s right eye nerve, which resulted in her losing most of her eyesight. Thanks to the support of the endowment fund which provided Natálka with aids and instruments for the sight-impaired, she is now a first-grade pupil in elementary school. Natálka is also the creator of the endowment fund’s logo. When asked how she would express the meaning of the endowment, she drew a smiling sun. In this childish way, she expressed simply and concisely why the endowment is here. The endowment wants to bring in a little bit of sun and brighten up the future of misfortunate children. The endowment’s activity is dependent on donations. The bank account of the endowment fund “Sun for Children”: 1002602843/2700, at UniCredit Bank Česká republika a.s.
